Laborde Products, Inc. offers several customer training opportunities throughout the year. Courses offered include Mitsubishi “A” and “R” series large bore engine training, Mitsubishi small bore engine training, Laborde Products, Inc. Barge Power Unit & Generator training, Steyr MO and SE engine, and Scania Marine training.
Laborde Products, Inc. offers several customer training opportunities throughout the year. Courses offered include Mitsubishi “A” and “R” series large bore engine training, Mitsubishi small bore engine training, Laborde Products, Inc. Barge Power Unit & Generator training, Steyr MO and SE engine, and Scania Marine training. Courses are offered on a “first come, first serve” basis. Classes are currently limited to six (6) students. Classes will be held at Laborde Products headquarters in Covington, Louisiana. Please see the following information regarding course dates, descriptions, costs, and registration information.
The A-Series engine training class is for technicians that have some experience in diesel engines and provides them with the understanding of what is unique to the Mitsubishi A Series. This course is a combination of classroom presentation and hands-on practical application training. Students will partially disassemble an A series engine, inspect components, reassemble the engine, and make all necessary adjustments.
Topics Covered:
- Basic Engine Components – unique to Mitsubishi
- Oil System – oil components troubleshooting
- Fuel System – failure analysis and repair
- Coolant System – component identifying and testing
- PSG Governor– troubleshooting and replacing
- Special Tools – necessary to troubleshoot engines
Upon completion, students should be able to perform tune-ups and diagnose most failures on the A series engines. Students will also receive a flash drive that contains service and parts manuals for the A series engines.

The Engine Commissioning training class provides general knowledge in order to successfully confirm installation and sea trial of Mitsubishi propulsion engines. Examples of the information covered includes fuel and water piping sizing, exhaust and intake sizing, engine mounting and other items that impact the performance of the engine. This course is primarily all classroom based. This course is available to Laborde Product’s Dealers only and the Mitsubishi Blended Series course is a prerequisite.
Upon completion, students should be able to successfully confirm proper installation of a Mitsubishi propulsion engine and complete sea trial and warranty registration documentation.

The course is for anyone new to the Mitsubishi large-bore engines that need familiarization and basic troubleshooting on the S6A, S6B, and S6R engines. The training consists of both classroom and hands-on training. Students will partially disassemble both series engines and discuss what is unique with the small-bore engines, inspect components, reassemble the engine, and make all necessary adjustments.
Topics Covered:
- Basic Engine Components Oil System – oil components troubleshooting
- Fuel System – failure analysis and repair
- Coolant System – component identifying and testing
- Mechanical Governor Operation Special Tools – necessary to troubleshoot engines
Upon completion, students should be able to perform tune-ups and diagnose most failures on the engines. Students will also receive a flash drive that contains service and parts manuals for S6A, S6B, and SR tier models.

Steyr engine training covers MO and SE Series engines. The course will provide a better understanding of both the mechanical parts and electronic components found on Steyr engines. Students will partially disassemble a MO engine, inspect components, reassemble the engine, and make all necessary adjustments.
Topics Covered:
- Basic Engine Components Oil System – oil components troubleshooting
- Fuel System – failure analysis and repair
- Coolant System – component identifying and testing
- Timing Belt – proper removal and installation of belt
- Diagnostic Software – read/record files using diagnostic programs
Upon completion, students should be able to perform tune-ups and diagnose most failures on the Steyr engines. Students will be able to operate and record log files using the Steyr diagnostic programs. Students are encouraged to bring a laptop to install the MO and SE software.

Maximize uptime with LPI Products training. LPI Products Training is for both the end user as well as the experienced diesel technician. This course contains both classroom presentations and hands-on practical training necessary to properly maintain and operate both LPI’s Barge Power Units (BPU) and Generators.

- Various Starting Systems
- Electrical Systems
- Proper Unit Operation
- Basic Troubleshooting
- Periodic Maintenance
Upon completion, students should have the knowledge to troubleshoot starting issues, bleed fuel systems, and properly maintain the units to minimize downtime.
